About the internship
The Legal Internship Position at Emigrate Lawyers provides practical exposure to Australian immigration law, client service, legal drafting, evidence preparation and professional file management. Interns will assist the legal team with a range of migration matters while learning how a boutique immigration law practice operates.
This opportunity is designed for people who are interested in developing legal skills in a client-centred, multicultural and quality-driven legal environment. The role may involve assisting with visa matters, research, document preparation, administrative legal support and general matter progression under supervision.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with legal research on Australian immigration law, policy and procedure.
- Support the preparation of visa applications, forms, client documents and supporting evidence briefs.
- Assist with drafting correspondence, file notes, client summaries, statements and basic supporting documents under supervision.
- Help organise and review documents provided by clients for immigration matters.
- Assist with file management, deadline tracking, matter updates and administrative legal support.
- Support the legal team across partner, family, skilled, employer-sponsored, protection and review matters where appropriate.
- Assist with client communication tasks under supervision, including follow-up emails and document request correspondence.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism and care when working with sensitive client information.
- Contribute to a respectful, ethical and client-focused legal practice.
About you
- Currently studying law, recently completed a law degree, or seeking practical exposure to immigration law.
- Interest in Australian immigration law, human rights, multicultural communities and client-centred legal practice.
- Strong written communication, research and organisational skills.
- High attention to detail and willingness to learn legal drafting and evidence preparation.
- Ability to follow instructions carefully and ask questions when clarification is required.
- Professional, ethical and respectful approach to client information and workplace communication.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Preferred experience
- Ability to speak more than one language is highly regarded.
- Experience working with multicultural, migrant, refugee or otherwise diverse communities is highly regarded.
- Previous legal administration, paralegal, customer service or community-sector experience is helpful but not essential.
- Interest in protection visas, partner visas, employer-sponsored visas, tribunal review matters or complex immigration submissions.
- Experience working with clients or community members from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
