Standard Business Sponsorship for 482 Visa: Employer Guide 2026
A Standard Business Sponsor is the usual sponsorship status for an Australian business wanting to nominate workers under the Subclass 482 Skills in Demand program. Home Affairs assesses whether the business is suitable before sponsorship approval.
Who can apply?
Home Affairs states that a legally established and operating business can apply to become a sponsor. Approval is separate from the later nomination of a particular position and worker.
Sponsorship is only the first layer
A successful Standard Business Sponsorship does not guarantee nomination or visa approval. The business must still satisfy occupation, genuine-position, Labour Market Testing, salary and nomination requirements for each worker.
Should an employer seek accreditation?
An approved Standard Business Sponsor can consider accredited status. Home Affairs states that accredited sponsors receive priority processing for SID 482 and 494 nominations and visa applications, subject to the accreditation criteria.

Frequently asked questions
Does meeting one 482 requirement guarantee approval?
No. Sponsorship, nomination and visa criteria operate together and each relevant criterion must be satisfied.
Should employers prepare the nomination before the worker’s visa?
The applications are connected. Evidence should be planned as one consistent case even though the legal criteria are distinct.
Can requirements change?
Yes. Salary thresholds, occupation settings and policy can change. This article was legally reviewed on 26 September 2026.
