Executive boardroom for employer sponsorship and corporate migration strategy

Sponsor structure, legal entity and future nomination strategy should be settled before the first overseas hire.
Standard Business Sponsorship

Sponsorship is the business approval layer—not the employee visa.

For Subclass 482 and 494 programs, the employer generally needs the appropriate sponsor status before the nomination and worker visa stages can succeed. Home Affairs currently states that Standard Business Sponsorship approval generally lasts five years.

New sponsors

For businesses sponsoring an overseas worker for the first time and needing sponsor approval, nomination planning and a compliant hiring structure.

Renewals & sponsor changes

For existing sponsors approaching expiry or dealing with business name, ownership, structure, address or operational changes.

Overseas businesses

For foreign businesses seeking to deploy personnel to Australia, establish operations or meet contractual obligations in Australia.

Employer-side legal work

Build the sponsorship platform before the first nomination.

A sponsor application should align with the legal entity that will employ the worker and with the business model that will support future nominations.

What we handle

  • Standard Business Sponsorship applications and renewals
  • Sponsor eligibility and adverse-information assessment
  • Business structure and associated-entity analysis
  • Evidence of lawful and active operations
  • Local labour and non-discriminatory recruitment declarations
  • Overseas business sponsorship strategy
  • Accredited sponsorship eligibility screening
  • Coordination with 482 and 494 nominations

Where employers get exposed

  • Applying in the wrong legal entity
  • Corporate restructuring after sponsorship approval
  • Incomplete evidence for a new or recently established business
  • Unresolved adverse information or previous compliance issues
  • Assuming sponsorship approval means a future nomination will automatically succeed
  • Allowing sponsorship to expire during an active recruitment program
Our process

We structure the employer case before lodgement so the documents, position, salary and workforce rationale tell the same story.

Sponsor readiness

Confirm entity, operations, sponsorship history and proposed workforce use.

Evidence strategy

Build the corporate, financial and operating evidence around the correct legal entity.

Application

Prepare and lodge the sponsor application and address Department requests if they arise.

Ongoing framework

Diarise renewal and establish sponsor-change and compliance procedures.

Executive briefing

Have a role, worker or deadline already in play?

Send us the business, proposed worker, position, location and target commencement date. We can use the first strategy call to identify the viable pathway, immediate evidence requirements and legal risks.

Employer FAQs

Business sponsorship questions before you employ overseas workers.

General information only. Current law, policy and evidence requirements should be checked for the specific business and proposed worker.

How long does Standard Business Sponsorship last?
Home Affairs currently states that Standard Business Sponsorship approval lasts five years from approval. Employers should plan renewal before expiry.
Can an overseas business become a Standard Business Sponsor?
Potentially. Home Affairs states that a business can be established in or outside Australia, subject to the applicable eligibility and evidence requirements.
Does SBS approval guarantee a 482 nomination?
No. Sponsorship approves the business. A later nomination must independently satisfy the position, occupation, salary, labour market testing and other criteria.
Can a new business sponsor a worker?
Potentially. New and recently established businesses face different evidentiary issues and should be prepared to prove lawful operation, business activity and the commercial basis for the proposed role.
Should we apply for accredited status?
Eligible Standard Business Sponsors can consider accreditation. The Department applies additional category-specific criteria, including compliance and workforce characteristics.
