DAMA 482 Visa 2026: Requirements, Concessions and Processing

Subclass 482 Skills in Demand Visa • Reviewed 26 September 2026

A Designated Area Migration Agreement can open employer-sponsored pathways that are not available under the standard 482 program, but a DAMA is not a visa by itself. It is a labour agreement framework tied to a designated region, occupation list and employer endorsement process.

Current law: This guide addresses a specific 482 search question under the current Skills in Demand framework. See our Subclass 482 hub for the complete pathway.

How the DAMA 482 pathway works

A business in a designated area generally needs to satisfy the local DAMA endorsement process, obtain access to the relevant labour agreement arrangements, nominate the worker and then support the Subclass 482 Skills in Demand visa application under the Labour Agreement stream.

What concessions can a DAMA offer?

Depending on the particular DAMA and occupation, concessions can potentially relate to age, English, salary, work experience or occupation access. Concessions are not universal: the specific DAMA head agreement and occupation settings control what is available.

Employer endorsement comes first

A business cannot simply choose “DAMA” in a visa form. The employer must meet the designated area’s endorsement criteria, demonstrate its operations and workforce need, and satisfy any local recruitment or business requirements.

Labour Market Testing and local recruitment

DAMA employers can face local recruitment and Labour Market Testing requirements. The exact period and evidence can differ from standard sponsorship settings and should be checked against the relevant regional authority and labour agreement.

How long does a DAMA 482 take?

There is no single guaranteed processing period because the pathway can involve regional endorsement, labour agreement access, nomination and visa processing. A delay at any stage affects the overall timeline.

    Frequently asked questions

Is DAMA only for regional Australia?

DAMAs are tied to designated areas. The geographic definition depends on the particular agreement.

    Can any occupation use DAMA?

No. Each DAMA has its own occupation settings and concessions.

Do DAMA workers get PR automatically?

No. Some DAMAs provide permanent residence pathways, but the worker must satisfy the relevant later visa criteria.

Can a Melbourne employer use another region’s DAMA?

Generally the business and position must satisfy the geographic and operational requirements of the relevant DAMA.
