Partner Visa Processing Update: Key Reminders for Applicants in 2026
The Department of Home Affairs has released important Partner visa processing reminders for applicants, sponsors, migration agents and legal practitioners.
The update highlights the importance of lodging complete, well-organised and evidence-backed Partner visa applications to avoid unnecessary delays.

Applicants should submit strong evidence showing that their relationship is genuine and ongoing.
This may include financial, household, social and personal evidence, as well as current identity documents, police checks, health assessments and sponsor information.
The Department has also confirmed that follow-up requests will not routinely be issued. This means any Request for Information or Natural Justice letter should be treated as the main opportunity to respond properly and within the required timeframe.
Applicants should also ensure documents are uploaded correctly in ImmiAccount, with clear file names and correct categories. Where an application remains pending, relationship evidence should be updated every 6 to 12 months.
For applicants who have reached the permanent Partner visa stage, updated information should be submitted through ImmiAccount once two years have passed since the original Partner visa application was lodged.
